Sushi is a dish made from wrapping cooked rice, raw/cooked fish, vegetables, and other ingredients with seaweed. It’s a versatile treat that you could make with many different combinations. What many do not know is sushi is a healthy dish, filled with protein, carbs, and omega 3. The key, of course, is to eat it in moderation.
Here are some healthy and tasty sushi recipes:
1. NEW YORK ROLL
The New York roll is very similar to the California roll, the only difference being that shrimp is used instead of crab sticks. You will also need avocado and cucumber to make this roll.
Ingredients:
Ingredients for rice
• 3 cups cooked Japanese rice
• 40 ml Rice vinegar
• 1 tablespoon Sugar
• 3/4 teaspoon Salt
Ingredients for rolls
• 6 oz cooked shrimp
• 1 Cucumber
• 1 Avocado
• 3 Nori (dried seaweed) sheets
• Sesame seeds
2. SALMON ROLL
It melts in your mouth because of the sensation of the salmon mixed with creamy avocado. Make sure to buy sushi grade salmon which can be found in Japanese supermarkets.

• 40 ml rice vinegar
• 1 tablespoon sugar
• 3/4 teaspoon salt

• 4-6 oz Salmon
• 1 Cucumber
• 1 Avocado
• 3 nori (dried seaweed) sheets • Sesame seeds
3. CALIFORNIA ROLL
It’s an American invention! This roll constantly tops the list in terms of popularity. You will need an avocado, cucumber, and crab sticks to make this sushi roll.
Ingredients:
Ingredients for rice
• 3 cups cooked Japanese rice
• 40 ml rice vinegar
• 1 tablespoon sugar
• 3/4 teaspoon salt
Ingredients for rolls
• 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
• ¼ English cucumber
• 1 avocado
• ¼ pound imitation crab
• 3 nori (dried seaweed) sheets
• Sesame seeds
*Use gluten free imitation crab or real crab and gluten free soy sauce for a complete gluten free recipe.
4. KAPPA MAKI (Cucumber Roll)
This is a classic sushi roll you can find in all Japanese restaurants, all around the world, including Japan. Kappa maki is proof that sometimes simplicity is best.
Ingredients:
Ingredients for rice
• 3 cups cooked Japanese rice
• 40 ml rice vinegar
• 1 tablespoon sugar
• 3/4 teaspoon salt
Ingredients for rolls
• 1-2 Cucumbers
5. NIGIRI SUSHI
Neat mounds of prepared sushi rice draped with a thin slice of raw fish or omelette (tamagoyaki) or another ingredient.

• 150 g short grain sushi rice
• 230 ml water
For the rice marinade
• 3 tbsp. Kikkoman Seasoned Vinegar for Sushi Rice
Ingredients for rice
• 200-220 g cooked and seasoned rice
• 90 g lean tuna, sliced into 6 even pieces
• 90 g fatty tuna, sliced into 6 even pieces
• Wasabi • Kikkoman soy sauce for dipping
