Have you ever felt tightness in your muscles during or after the workout? Have you ever wondered why you feel this way? Have you ever tried working out without stretching as a warmup?
You may sometimes think to yourself, “Why should I stretch when I am perfectly fine?” It is always important to know that we should stretch in order to protect our mobility and independence.
Stretching prior to every workout will (1) keep the muscles flexible, (2) strong, and (3) healthy. We definitely need that flexibility in order to perform a variety of exercises and maintain the range of motion in our joints. Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight.
It may sound overwhelming to think that we should stretch daily but we should not stretch every muscle of our body. However, it is essential to stretch the muscles of the lower extremities such as the quads, hamstrings, and calves. Also, stretching your shoulders, neck, and lower back is beneficial. Try to make it a goal to stretch at least 3-4 times a week.
Stretching one day won’t make you flexible as you think. You should always remember to practice over and over again until you are committed to the process. It takes weeks to months to get flexible and you have to continue working to maintain it.
With hard work and perseverance, you will be flexible in no time!
